Support for Ron Smith and family
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Anna and I'm posting this for my father and mother in law, Ron and Lori Smith.
As most of you know, for the last year Ron has been battling a rare unnamed thymic cancer that started as a tumor in his chest and was unmoved by chemo therapy, targeted radiation, and more. It slowly spread from his chest to his brain and spine. But he fought every day with a smile on his face pushing through and showing so much strength through it all.
This month he journeyed to Arizona in a last attempt for answers, as his type of cancer was still unknown. Unfortunately we didn't get the answers we were looking for, but confirmation of our greatest fears. It was rare and untreatable. All treatment screeched to a halt and we entered into the last legs of hope and love together.
We spent the last few weeks together as a family always as much with hope as we could muster, as none of this felt real. We just kept waiting and wishing for him to get better.
Thursday morning despite everything we and the medical teams tried, he passed peacefully in his sleep at home.
Ron was a shining light to the community. From his times coaching the kids at football and basketball, to the years as a referee. Everyone that met him got to witness his enormous personality. He taught so many so much and made everyone, kids and adults alike smile. He made this world a brighter place and he reffed with compassion, care, and the love of the game.
The only thing he loved more than food was his family. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, his children Ronnie and Kara, and his grandchildren Colton and Myla.
We are asking for help to ease the financial burden of the non-covered treatments and his celebration of life.
