Ava Finger, along with her brother Evan, and parents Janelle and Jeremy of Juneau, Wisconsin, were vacationing in Star Valley, Wyoming the week of 8/16/20. They were visiting Janelle's brother Neal Wiebelhaus, and family(Holly, Grace and Lane). They had been enjoying a wonderful family vacation hiking, swimming, kayaking and fishing until a tragic accident occurred on August 20th.
Ava and her family went to Jackson Hole Resort for a day of mountain biking. On the first run, Ava crashed her bike after going over a banked turn. Janelle was right behind her and mountain patrol was immediately summoned. She was back-boarded and brought to St. John's Health in Jackson, WY.
Spine surgeons performed a 6 hour surgery to stabilize fractures of the Thoracic vertebrae # 7-8-9 with rods and screws. Ava has not had feeling below her chest since the accident and doctors are not optimistic about regaining nerve sensation/function at this time.
Ava has been awake and aware of the situation throughout this ordeal. She has maintained her spunk. She will be in the ICU for 1-2 weeks then likely to a spinal injury rehab facility, location to be determined. There are so many unknowns, so they are approaching one hurdle at a time.
Outreach and support has been overwhelming and greatly appreciated. Countless friends and family have offered help and they are asking for YOUR PRAYERS most! A miracle is needed and praying will help achieve one. Ava's 14th birthday is August 25th, Cards can be sent to:

As many of you know, the road to recovery for spinal cord injuries can be a long one. Often, patients have to spend months in other cities to get the best rehabilitation they can find. Our goal is to help this dear family offset the huge costs that are not always covered by insurance. Please donate as soon as you can to help Ava on her journey back to health.
