Meet our little miracle baby Kyanna Lilly Braithwaite.
After being told we could not have babies 20 years ago, she was a big surprise when I found out i was 5 months pregnant.
After our second ultrasound we were told the left side of her heart was smaller than normal and referred to king Edward Hospital in Perth.
We were informed that she has a serious heart issue called Hypoplastic left heart syndrome and will require surgery after birth to keep her alive. We were told that she may not be able to survive the birth.
We were recommended to go to Brisbane to receive the best quality care and surgery for baby kyanna.
Kyanna was born at the Marter Hospital in Brisbane on 19/02/25
She has undergone her first open heart surgery at 1 week old at the Queensland Children’s Hospital. The norwood procedure wad performed to keep her alive. The surgeons opened up a artery, inserted a stint and placed bands on her lungs to reduce blood flow.
She will require another surgery around 4 months of age to assist in pumping more blood around her body then another surgery around 4 years old where we will travel back to Brisbane.
Kyanna is currently struggling with Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a life-threatening illness almost exclusively affecting neonates with a mortality rate as high as 50 percent. The pathophysiology of NEC is inflammation of the intestine leading to bacterial invasion causing cellular damage and cellular death.
She has been so strong and experienced so much pain that no baby should ever experience, we have been by her side the whole time and it takes its toll on the whole family.
We would love for kyanna to experience the joys of life and to see, smell and experience life outside of hospital.
My husband and I have volunteered out time working with underprivileged youth, providing foster care and volunteering at local football games for many years and now we would like to ask our community to help support kyannas future.
The funds will go towards medical expenses, travel for medical and for the best support for kyannas future.
We would appreciate any support our community can provide and if you can pass this link to others please support.
Also please look at donating to the Marter Hospital Brisbane who do research into childhood medical conditions.
