Kyle Hundley, let’s bury this….Cancer!

Hello, I am Brianne. I met Kyle in 2013 at work. I’m not sure I’ve had a coworker make me laugh/smile/enjoy my job more than Kyle. He is the light and laughter that so many of us need in our lives. So I want to help ease the burden on their family while Kyle takes time to fight his battle. Here is Abby’s initial update from Caring Bridge: Cancer is the battle that no one ever wants to face. Our family, like many others, has seen way too much of it and sadly we are facing it once again. Monday morning Kyle woke up struggling to breathe. We had to have him transported by ambulance to the hospital. They were able to stabilize him pretty quickly. Once they ruled out asthma they began lab work and testing immediately. Chest CT showed multiple blood clots and a suspicious spot on his kidney and several smaller spots on his spleen. Lab work showed signs of stress on his heart due to the clotting. After meeting with what felt like every specialist under the sun, it was determined that Kyle has renal cell carcinoma that has spread to the spleen. However due to the bilateral pulmonary emboli, which we learned were caused by the cancer, he is too high of risk to have surgery at this time. Our focus is preventing more clots from forming and giving the other clots time to safely break down. We also need to give his heart time to recover from the stress. We have been referred to KU and will be meeting a urologist and oncologist next week. We are hoping they can provide more details on what his treatment plan timeline might look light. We are hoping he stays healthy enough to have both the kidney and spleen removed, essentially removing the cancer. He will likely have some type of post treatment to make sure they got it all. We are very thankful for all of the emergency responders, nurses, and doctors that provided critical care for him this week. It could have been so much worse. We are also extremely grateful for our family and friends who rallied around us big time helping with the kids, animals, food, making lesson plans, checking in on us, and keeping us company. We are so lucky to have so much support as we start this long journey. While this is without a doubt a tough pill to swallow, we are determined to fight like hell to beat this. We will use this site to share updates and make sure accurate information is being shared. As you can tell from the site title, he hasn't let this crappy news take away his sense of humor.
