Kyle Walker's Mission Against Melanoma
Donation protected
Kyle moved back to Australia from South Africa to pursue his citizenship, he managed to get back just in time as COVID hit.
He settled in Brisbane and had just started a new job when he started feeling excruciating pain in his back. After numerous visits to the hospital and after many tests, Melanoma was detected. To make it even worse, it is Melanoma Stage IVc and has metastasized into his spine, pelvis, liver, adrenal gland and lung.
Not the ideal news for a 30 year old starting his life in a new country. His family is back in South Africa bar his sister who is in New Zealand but with the pandemic and current restrictions has had to deal with this alone.
The current treatment option is immunotherapy, which is experimental but has had success with patients in Kyle's situation also having Crohn's as a condition. This is an immune disease where the immune system attacks the colon, it can hamper cancer treatment. Kyle started the immunotherapy treatment on the 18th Feb '21 and will have monthly treatment.
We should have a better understanding of the immunotherapy progress 6-8 weeks post first treatment.
Kyle has also started radiation treatment this week to try reduce the tumors in his spine which is causing the severe pain that refers in his body.
Fortunately, he has a private hospital healthcare plan and we have since found out that most of his in hospital treatments will be covered.
Unfortunately, this does not cover the extra costs that come with fighting cancer.
We need help with funding with immediate effect as treatment has started.
Having recently started a job at the end of last year, sick leave is limited, his company has been amazing with support, understanding and provided compassionate leave towards his situation. They are extremely understanding and have allowed him to work from hospital or home and attends meetings in the office where possible.
However this will runout at some point soon.
By donating, your help will aid Kyle in supporting himself with rent, loss of income, food i.e. prepared meal service and delivery (he does not have someone to look after him and being nauseous or in pain doesn't lend itself to cooking for himself), travel to and from medical treatments, extra medical costs i.e. nutritionist to get the right diet to aid recovery, vitamins, supplements, out of hospital costs like his oncologist appointments
We thank you in advance with any support you're able to give and help Kyle fight this. We know the support will go a long way.
