Kyler’s journey to a strong heart
The What:
Our Kyler Owen is FINALLY getting his Heart fixed! Kyler is 4, almost 5, and was born with a tricuspid valve defect, enlarged Right atrium, and small Right ventricle. He has been under the care of Seattle Children’s, but his case was recently taken on by Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic has decided to perform surgery on Kyler’s heart to fix his defect before it becomes worse irreparable. We are so so excited that our baby boy will finally get his heart fixed and have a chance at a normal life!
Surgery: triscuspid valve and Right ventricle reconstruction.
Where: Mayoclinic in Rochester, Minnesota
When: February 11, 2022
When: February 11, 2022
Background:
Kyler was born with what is rated as a severe form of Ebstein’s anomaly, a dysfunction of the Tricuspid valve and Right ventricle of the heart. His valve does not close properly and his R ventricle is smaller than it should be. The right atrium is also enlarged. This causes a backflow of blood from the Right ventricle to the right atrium, decreasing blood being pumped to the body. Although Kyler has been symptom free since 9 days old, his heart is still in severe condition. It is imperative it is fixed before it becomes inoperable and would need a full transplant.
