Help for Angel

I write to you today with a heavy heart to share that my son has endured a horrible accident and has lost his fingers on his right hand.

Neighbors didn't clean up from their 4th of July festivities. The next afternoon, curious children handled some sort of firework and it exploded in my son's hand. This dreadful incident has left him disfigured and permanently disabled. Beyond the loss of fingers, extensive surgeries were required to realign every bone in his hand, along with other health concerns needing to be addressed every day.

His pinky remains intact, though it's viability is still up for debate. Each surgical intervention brings the discussion of removing it, yet there is a glimmer of hope that it may survive. I ask for prayer for his pinky finger, as it represents a small beacon of possibility amongst this tragedy.

His hospital has been doing everything to help my beautiful boy get some ounce of comfort, but he faces inconceivable pain every hour of every day.

The abrasions all over his body are healing well, and despite suffering from embedded debris in his eyeballs & surrounding internal eye sockets, there is no concern for his vision !

In the forthcoming month, Angel will undergo a series of surgeries in regular intervals -approximately every 3-5 days- aimed at stabilizing his injured hand.

Additionally, we learned he has two perforations in his right eardrum, that is currently affecting his hearing.

The road ahead will be long and hard. It's extremely tough to even think beyond the hour, but I know this GoFundMe campaign for Angel is a start to get him what he needs to recover in this new journey we face.

Once his hand is stabilized, we will move on to the skin graft procedure. Angel will have his hand sewn into his stomach, under the skin, to promote new skin growth on the hand, and it will need to remain there for at least 3 weeks. This will be a trying time for sure.

Lots of obstacles ahead!

Additionally, my amazing 16 yr old daughter has immense trauma from this tragedy as well, as she was the one who saw the mangled hand, covered it up, etc. She is facing many hardships mentally from this event. I ask that you extend your compassion & support to my daughter during this trying period.

RECENT UPDATE: On Monday 7-17-23 Angel underwent a special skin graft surgery that attached his hand to his stomach. It is positioned close to his groin which limits his movements. How devastating to witness your child in that state of pain.

Additionally, sadly, majority of the pinky had to be amputated this time around.

Hospital staff urge him to get up & take steps, to prevent blood clots. It is a hardy feat. He can't bend too much or stand too straight; he has to be tilted just right to not agitate the stitches & stretched skin. He worked through the pain and managed to take steps today (7-20-23). He is being monitored closely due to unknown spikes in heart rate & resp rate. Surgery to remove the hand from the stomach will be in about 3 weeks if all goes well.
