Kyra’s Heart Surgery & Stroke Rehabilitation

For Kyra Wright, a vibrant & outgoing 26-year-old stroke survivor, the unexpected struck on November 30, 2023. From a Shift Manager at The Glass Knife and a full-time student at Valencia College, Kyra's life took a dramatic turn when she woke up, fell to the floor, and faced a stroke.

Diagnosed with an Ischemic Large right MCA petechial hemorrhage, Kyra experienced left hemiplegia, cytotoxic edema, and subfalcine herniation. Despite the challenges, Kyra's strength prevailed and has been an inspiration to all who’ve been around her. After a week in ICU and intensive rehabilitation, she walks short distances with a cane and is focusing on regaining fine motor skills.

Discovering her stroke's cause, doctors linked it to birth control, exacerbated by a moderate PFO (a small hole in her heart). Kyra's journey includes upcoming heart surgery to close the PFO. Released on December 24th, Kyra, now residing with her brother, faces six months of outpatient rehabilitation to retrain her brain on how to use the entire left side of her body & face.

Kyra's resilience shines through humor, crafting Christmas cards in rehab for all of her nurses/doctors, and maintaining a positive outlook. This fundraiser supports her care, covering deductibles, copays, medications, transportation, and more, as she lacks short-term disability insurance.
