Kyson's open heart surgery

Donation protected
My oldest daughter, Riley and her fiance Kaleb had their 3rd baby boy on July 16th, Kyson Green. His initial assessment was done the next morning by a pediatric nurse practitioner when she heard a heart murmur. She informed us that it was not abnormal to hear a murmur in a newborn baby but it was loud and intense. She wanted to get an echocardiogram just to be safe that it wasn't more than a normal murmur you would hear on a newborn. We are so thankful that she took the extra step for that test. He was diagnosed with a VSD- ventricular septal defect (a hole between the ventricles of the heart). The doctors said he would still be able to go home but we would have to watch for signs and symptoms of distress. These symptoms can include rapid breathing, heavy breathing, tiring out while feeding and poor weight gain. He would have his 1st appointment at 3 weeks of age unless any issues arise. At his 1st appointment, the pediatric cardiologist did a follow up echocardiogram and said the hole in his heart was 5mm in size. At that time, we were told that he had a 75% chance that he would undergo open heart surgery, that the hole in his heart would probably not close on its own. Typically the doctors like to wait until the baby is 4 to 6 months of age so they can grow bigger and stronger. At that appointment, since his little heart was pumping extra hard, the cardiologist put him on Lasix once a day. This is a diuretic to help decrease extra fluid on the lungs caused by the extra blood flow to the lungs. He wanted to see him back at 5 weeks of age. At that appointment, the cardiologist was not happy with his weight gain and he was still working hard to breathe so he admitted him into the hospital. He wanted to add formula to the breast milk to increase his calorie intake and increase his Lasix rapidly to help with his breathing. He was discharged 2 days later. He was seen again 3 days after his discharge. His cardiologist said he would see him from now on once a week. The following week, he said he couldn't do anything more medically that we need to start the process for sweet baby Kyson to have open heart surgery. He did a final echocardiogram to send to the heart surgeon and the hole in his heart had increased in size to 8mm. He is scheduled for open heart surgery October 3rd at Ochsner Heath Center for Children-New Orleans. Riley has not been able to return to work with all of Kyson's medical issues and multiple appointments that he has had. They are on a fixed income with Kaleb the only one able to work during this time. I am setting up a GoFundMe to help alleviate some of the financial stress that has accompanied this unforeseen diagnosis and surgery. The donations will go to travel expense, accommodation cost, loss of wages and whatever expenses they may need through this stressful time. Any donations or prayers are greatly appreciated for sweet baby Kyson and his family through this difficult time!

Thank you for all the love and prayers that we have already received!
