Ronnie has been a good friend of mine since we were small kids. He's more like family! I’d like to share (some of) his story with you.
He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a young lad at the age of 10. Through the years, he adapted to his new lifestyle, but that was just the beginning of his journey.
In 2013, Ronnie was blessed with a son! For various reasons, his relationship did not work out & suddenly he became a single dad.
Fast forwarding to 2016, he was diagnosed with cryptic genetic liver disease & was informed that he needed a liver transplant due to failure. In 2018, while he had been fighting for life & patiently waiting for his transplant, he started hemorrhaging. This hemorrhage landed him in a coma. While his family & friends feared the worst, Ronnie made it back to us. The result of these ongoing health issues caused him to be crippled with drop foot, among many other things.
In 2019, the Reed family got the best news – Ronnie had a donor! He underwent the transplant & came out with a positive outlook on life. But it doesn’t stop there…
As many of you may know, the lifelong medications required to sustain that foreign liver can cause the kidneys to fail… and guess what?
In 2021, Ronnie got some more bad news. His kidneys are failing & he is yet again put on the transplant list. He now needs dialysis 3x a week, among many other doctor visits. But it doesn’t stop there…
Just last week, Ronnie was in an accident with his only means of transportation – a vehicle he was borrowing from his parents. Thankfully, he is fine, but now he has no way to get to his appointments or get his son to school. He feels as if he is burdening everyone around him by asking for rides or borrowing a car.
He has been on disability since his liver failure, which I’m sure you know doesn’t pay enough to even provide necessities for him & his son, let alone pay for anything “extra”. His mother quit working to care for him & to help out with his son. Their whole family survives on the minuscule amount he gets from his disability, & his father’s income. They’ve had to file for bankruptcy themselves, which the car he was driving was a part of.
So, I’m asking you today to donate to help Ronnie get back on his feet! Every dollar and share helps!
Also, if you are feeling so obliged, it only takes a few clicks to see if you are a match for a kidney donation – A+ blood type!
Thanks for reading!
