Transplant Medical Expenses
Hi everyone! This is Briana. In December 2014, I had a bone marrow transplant, due to my rare blood disorder known as Aplastic Anemia.
I was only three weeks out of the hospital when doctors discovered that my transplant failed. As if life wasn't comprimised enough, I was told that I had to endure a second transplant.
I was hospitalized in February 2015 for a fungal infection in my sinuses. It took four surgeries, CT scans, MRIs, and countless white blood cell transfusions from donors, to get it under control.
Then on March 11, 2015, I began five days of grueling radiation and chemotherapy, as part of the pre-conditioning phase of my transplant. On March 17th, I received my stem cells...another chance at a long life.
I spent an additional three weeks in isolation at the hospital, recovering and praying that everything worked. Then on April 8, 2015, I was discharged...sent on my way to begin my 100-day social confinement and recovery journey.
I have no immune system at all. My immune system is lower than a newborns'. Me and my mommy are living away from my father and sisters (close to the hospital), until I am stable enough to be around more people. It has to be this way because I am considered at "high-risk" for infections during this time, which could easily put me back into the hospital...and possibly be lethal to my health.
I wanted to do this fundraiser because my parents need financial help to pay bills, medication, gas, parking, and food (for two households now). You see, my mommy has been out of work since December 2014 and has not been able to return; and she is not getting paid at all for the time she is missing. They struggle month to month, not knowing how expenses are going to get paid.
So please, if you can spare anything right now, it would be super awesome! It will help relieve my parents of the stress they are under, and my mommy can focus on just taking care of me. Thank you for your support and God bless you and your families!
