La Bala; A short film by Brie Zepeda

La Bala is the story of a Mexican family living in Arizona who is faced with imminent deportation. Instead of being handled by the INS, they take matters into their own hands and attempt to flee back to their homeland before they are caught and labeled as criminals.
While on their journey, a terrible tragedy is thrust upon all of them. This film is based on true events that took place in Mexico in the 1980's involving my abuela, mother and cousin. They all were faced with bodily harm and injuries of varying degrees.
This story is near & dear to my heart. With my abuela being 96 years old, I would love nothing more than the opportunity to tell this story in her honor and have her see the finished product while she is still with us. I am dedicating this film to her, but also to the memory of those who lost their lives in the derailment of La Bala in 1982 and the families that are still living with this grief.
