La coperacha pa' Jesús: a escribir se ha dicho
In 2016, I decided to lean into writing as a gift to myself; as a way to figure out how to breathe and keep my head from bursting. Thanks to the mentorship of my incredible homies, Adrienne Dawes and Taji Senior, I've decided to take the risk to submit to as many learning and writing opportunities as possible. Last year, I was awarded the 2018 Undocupoets Fellowship and a Tin House Summer Scholarship.
This year, I have received a partial scholarship to attend the 2019 Lambda Literary Emerging Writers Retreat, The Letras Latinas scholarship to attend Squaw Valley Community of Writers, an Idyllwild Arts Writers Week poetry fellowship, a full poetry scholarship from The Fine Arts Work Center, and a playwright's fellowship from the Sewanee Writers' Conference. I am incredibly fortunate and blessed to be given the space, support, and guidance to write at these retreats and conferences. Attending the Tin House Summer Workshop in 2018 changed everything for me and helped me find other writers who have inspired me and have held me upright since then.
This summer, I hope to do the same, but I need some help getting there. Traveling to these conferences and retreats will be difficult as four out of five of these will require a flight and a shuttle from the airport to the retreat. Two of these will require some partial funding for housing. If y'all can throw a 1 or a 5 at it, that would be tremendously appreciated.
