Hi!
My name is Ligia, and I am the creator and director of La Mansarda.
The concept:
La Mansarda is a non-profit project initiated in March 2022 to support Arts and Humanities projects while creating a secure haven for self-expression for everyone, from artists to audiences. In Italian, "La Mansarda" translates to "the attic," typically a forgotten space reserved for storage. However, in our context, it symbolises a refuge from the external world, fostering the flourishing of one's inner self in ways not usually explored.
History :
Over the past two years, La Mansarda has curated monthly multi-disciplinary cultural events celebrating Dublin's diverse art scene. From comedy to spoken word, music to dance, each event features established acts and emerging talent within a supportive environment. These ticket-based events contribute proceeds to both artists and charitable organisations endorsed by La Mansarda. This platform has become a crucial support system, providing compensation to artists during a time when the fragility of the artistic sector was magnified by the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recognising the importance of the arts in local communities, especially during challenging times, La Mansarda is committed to supporting and promoting creative and talented artists. The project offers an intimate space for various art forms, such as music, dance, poetry, and stand-up comedy. La Mansarda events have been hosted in diverse venues across Dublin, fostering community engagement and idea-sharing among attendees.
La Mansarda support for PIC:
In line with its dedication to supporting humanitarian projects, La Mansarda strongly backed PIC in 2022. People In Cooperation (PIC) is a non-profit association founded in 2014 by Andrea Mastria and Antonio Martella, both healthcare professionals. La Mansarda's donations to PIC facilitated the acquisition of essential medical equipment for providing appropriate diagnostic treatment to adults and children.
La Mansarda for UNICEF:
In 2022, La Mansarda organised events to raise funds for UNICEF, directing the collected funds towards aiding children affected by the civil war in Sudan and those in the Gaza Strip and supporting children facing the Yemen hunger crisis.
EMERGENCY, founded in 1994, stands as a beacon of humanitarian commitment and global impact. This Italian NGO is dedicated to providing free, high-quality medical and surgical care to victims of war, poverty, and discrimination worldwide. EMERGENCY's unwavering mission extends beyond healing physical wounds; it promotes a culture of peace, advocating for the universal right to healthcare. With projects spanning from conflict zones to areas affected by natural disasters, EMERGENCY exemplifies compassion and resilience in the face of adversity, leaving an indelible mark on modern humanitarian efforts. La Mansarda is proud to collaborate with EMERGENCY, channeling the power of art to support their vital cause.
Your donations...
Commencing this project with profound respect for the arts and humanitarian associations, the goal for 2024 is to establish a team to develop further and integrate the project within the community. This includes enhancing artistic growth resources for individuals and communities while supporting humanitarian missions.
Donations received will cover La Mansarda's various project expenses, including venue payments, insurance, sound engineering, and more.
Notably, La Mansarda has never profited directly from the organised events; instead, funds raised are allocated to compensate performing artists and support the endorsed humanitarian causes.
Personal feedback:
This project was just an idea back in February 2022. When I first started, I felt utterly humbled by the world of public support it had received. It was the start of an incredible journey, and the little community that this project built around it has now become part of my family.
