LAAD’s Recovery Fund
Tax deductible
Dear Friends of the Deaf Community,
In the early wee hours on December 20, 2022, we had a break-in at our facilities and we’ve suffered losses. We are grateful for our security system which has the entire incident on video, and the Police have pulled that as their evidence. We also found out that we were not the only place that was broken into on the same day and the Police investigation shows that it is possibly from the same burglar(s).
Damages to our facilities include one of our windows in the front of the building smashed to pieces, our office ransacked leaving our business affairs and documents scattered all over the place, our multiple vending machines damaged, our change dispenser machine damaged beyond recognition and several of hundreds of dollars stolen from us.
Here are some of the pictures:
As you know, the Lafayette Athletic Association of the Deaf (LAAD) has been struggling to survive the last year or so. This loss is significant and the timing could not be any worse. We are a small nonprofit organization with the mission of maintaining a gathering, meeting, and social space for the members of our local Deaf community, including the public, through the use of our venue for their corporate or private functions. We are proud to have been able to do that for nearly 52 years.
Our Insurance Policy does not cover everything and we are reaching out for assistance in replacing and repairing the damages to bring our facilities back to working order. We appreciate any help you can make towards LAAD's recovery process from this unfortunate event.
Donations can also be sent to us at this mailing address:
