LACAN's Feminine Hygiene Kits
Donation protected
Hi Friends ! For the past month I have been working downtown on Skid Row under the amazing documentarian Paul Freedman. I have been assisting him on his film "The Dirty Divide" - an exposé on the Los Angeles' government's inaction and criminalization of homelessness. While working with Paul I have also had the pleasure of getting involved with Los Angeles Community Action Network. LA CAN is an organization headed by the amazing Pete White and Monique Noel. Not only does LA CAN use its political and humanitarian influence to fight for the rights of houseless people on Skid Row, but under Monique's guidance, LA CAN has begun a women's initiative. She explained to me how often times, the women living on Skid Row do not have access to feminine care or basic hygiene products. To try and combat this issue, Monique has been making kits with products that many of the women have expressed a need for (such as tampons or flashlights). She often makes kits with these items herself which can be very costly. On average the kits range from $35-50 depending on what's inside them. Inspired by Monique, I gathered a few of my friends and together we made over 50 kits to give out to the women of Skid Row. I am hoping that this Go Fund Me will allow us to assist at least a few women who find themselves in this difficult position.
