Lacey Kurkowski’s medical expenses
Donation protected
Our family received some heavy, unexpected news this holiday season. My sister, Lacey Kurkowski, recently visited urgent care to be evaluated for abdominal pain. Following a cat scan, a cystic mass was incidentally discovered on her kidney. The cyst was thought to be benign, however an MRI was required to confirm this. Unfortunately, the MRI classified the mass as a Bosniak Grade 4 lesion on the right kidney. Grades 3-4 have an 80% likelihood of being cancerous. Due to the cystic origin of the mass, a biopsy would not be conclusive or of any benefit. Lacey was referred to a Urologist who then referred her to a specialist due to the complexity of the lesion and the location (right next to liver). The surgeon Lacey is working with is located at St Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee. He determined the safest thing to do is remove that part of the kidney. The tumor will be sent for pathology and treatment will be finalized once that is determined. The surgeon is very optimistic that even though there is high probability of cancer, once removed, Lacey will not need chemo or radiation, though she will be monitored closely over the next several years. Following surgery, Lacey will need to be off of work for 4-6 weeks to heal. She will be unable to do any heavy lifting or vigorous activity to ensure proper healing. Lacey will be traveling to Milwaukee regularly and will be prompted with several medical expenses as a result of this diagnosis. It is my hope that you would consider providing a donation in an effort to help Lacey and her family work through this difficult time. Please keep Lacey in your prayers. Thank you so much.
