Dear Community,
This comes on behalf of our mother, Lady Bianca, who has recently suffered a sudden medical emergency. While we are relieved to say that she is going one step at a time on her road to recovery, she is presently unable to work and has been forced to cancel many of her performances.
For the uninitiated and loyal fans alike, the legendary Lady Bianca is a Gospel and R&B vocalist/pianist, artist, producer and celebrated fixture of the Bay Area blues scene, widely known as the “Queen of the Blues and Gospel”. With her partner, the late Stanley Lippitt, she has amassed a catalog of over 300 songs, and has produced, arranged and recorded 9 albums, including her recent release, “Lady Bianca Sings: Hold on a Little While Longer and Gonna Have A Mighty Good Time (2020), via her own Magic-O Records (“Home of the Mighty Oakland Sound”) label. Lady Bianca built a career as a featured performer, opening act, vocal arranger and record producer for industry luminaries such as Frank Zappa, Sly Stone, Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker and Hall of Fame legends Bobby Bland, Willie Dixon, Etta James, Curtis Mayfield, Koko Taylor, Joe Louis Walker, to name a select few. Along with having produced and released her own music, Lady Bianca continues to tour the country as a soloist and with her trio, sharing her dynamic and signature sound across the country and around the world.
However, her ability to perform has been suspended due to this medical crisis. As a full recovery is expected to take up to a year, we are working to navigate the financial realities that have emerged during our mother’s rehabilitation. As medical bills accumulate, her standard monthly obligations remain and we have found that mortgage and utility companies are not the most compassionate. And so we continue to seek out assistance that can help defray the current and coming costs of her care.
Yesterday, we discovered that the roof in her bedroom had fallen in after being saturated with the recent rain. Fortunately, Lady Bianca was not at home as she is under observation at the hospital after a recent procedure. However, she was hoping to be able to return to her house upon discharge to continue her recovery but her home has now been rendered unsafe. Despite these challenges, our family is hoping to repair the roof as quickly as possible so that we may welcome her back to the comfort of her home. We are asking her friends, colleagues, collaborators and community to consider contributing to this campaign to help Lady Bianca make a complete recovery, return to the stage and restore her independence.
Our family would be so grateful for your kindness.
Feel free to share messages of support and encouragement as well. All of it helps.
Thank you and Take care of yourselves.
