At 5:20am on March 26th (just 4 days ago as I write) I received a phone call from my brother. I can still hear his voice ringing in my mind- as I picked up the phone, he says almost immediately "She's gone...She's gone".

Just 9 months ago my mother (Tina Blount), was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, the pancreas is one of the most difficult areas to detect cancer in early. Even though there were signs of problems in her body, doctors assured her just a week or so prior to confirmation of test results that it didnt look like it was cancer. Well, those test results came back... and it was cancer. Not only was it cancer, but it was already at an aggressive Stage 4 level.

She began an aggressive series of chemotherapy treatments lasting for up to 3 days at a time. She had many ups and downs battling the cancer and the side effects of chemo. If you didn't know already the medicines used for chemo treatments are VERY strong. The problem is that the medicine is unable to identify the good cells from the bad. It kills everything in its path. It often seems that the treatment is worse than the disease itself. My mom had a great turnaround about a month ago and then things went downhill...fast.

Between the treatments, pain and mental/physical stresses related to dealing with the battle, I stand grateful God saw fit to relieve her of this burden.

My mother was and is a beautiful soul. She dedicated her life to serving others. She served alongside my father (Bishop Willie Blount) in ministry as the "First Lady" of Divine Life Worship Center. Married for over 40 years, she was a dedicated wife, mother of two (Jay and Joshua Blount)and grandmother of three (Jada, Noah and Jaylen). She had the poise, elegance and grace of royalty. Yet, she remained one of the most approachable and loving women I've ever known. She was consistent. She had God-given wisdom and strength that she utilized to build and edify others. Even in her last days on earth she spent time ministering to those who visited her.

I'll surely miss her laugh, her smile, her hugs and her  calls as she would affectionately call me her "Pumpkin Man".
