Lafayette County Supervisors Museum Field Trip

Donation protected

Help me send the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors on a much-needed field trip to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson. (Or the National Civil Rights Museum about an hour up the road in Memphis, TN)

On July 6th the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to keep the controversial confederate statue in front of the courthouse in downtown Oxford, Mississippi.

All five supervisors are white men. All are "Christian".

“I myself have been a victim of racism due to the color of my skin. I’ve also been a victim of police brutality. What I do know is there are a lot of bad people in this world, and no matter how many statues, flags or pancake boxes you take down, they will still exist.” - Chad McClarty,  Supervisor District 4, A white man

After over a century, including the recent weeks, of heartfelt requests to remove the statue the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors basically said that they don’t care about people of color aka their neighbors.

Let’s offer some more education to supposedly educated men, shall we?

The hope is that with the money raised for museum admission fees and gas, I can offer the Lafayette Board of Supervisors an all-expenses-paid field trip to open up their minds a little.  If these men do go to the MS Civil Rights Museums, it is crucially recommended that they receive a guided tour from one of the docents. Many of the docents at the museum were involved in the historic Freedom Summer movement in MS and can definitely tell the supervisors what confederate statues mean to them.

More than likely the board will not accept the all-expenses-paid field trip. If that is the case, all donations will go to the Boys & Girls Club of North Mississippi so that they may enjoy a trip to the museum instead or use that money for anything they see fit. The donation to the Boys & Girls Club of North Mississippi will be made in the Supervisor's and Johnny Morgan's name.

Will the supervisors accept this invitation to educate themselves? Based on the way they voted, probably not.
Is it worth a shot? Hey, why not?

Please spread the word.
