Lahaina Fire-Rebuild 4 Households

Donation protected

Last night I watched helplessly from the mainland while my brother and his family members and neighbors and friends lost their homes in Lahaina. They escaped the flames in the nick of time, driving away and watching their homes- and even beloved pets who ran to hide in all of the chaos- perish in the fire. The heartbreak and devastation that surrounds them now is almost too much to bear.

My brother has always had the most generous heart. He is the guy who welcomes everyone into his family and home without question or judgment- the one to make sure that neighbors and friends have enough food, to make sure everyone's kids have shoes to wear, and to ensure that the elders in the family and community are not just well-cared-for, but respected and honored as the treasures that they are.

As a Hawaiian language immersion teacher in Lahaina, he has played a significant role in the revitalization of Hawaiian language and culture in our hometown. And though his humble nature would never allow him to boast about his accomplishments, he has been a vital resource to the community over the years. Within his own family and beyond, he has made sure that Lahainaʻs children have grown up embracing their heritage, instilling in them a strong sense of worth that is now being passed on through generations. His daughters, who also lost their homes, have grown to become stewards of their heritage, as well. They are bright thinkers who make an impact in the community.

The tragedy of the fires in Lahaina will be felt for years to come. Our family lost 3 homes which were completely burned down and while the structure of the fourth home remains, everything in it has been lost to smoke damage. The fire has displaced 21 people in our family. The Rogers-Cabrera Family are people who create positive change in the community and they now have nothing but the shirts on their backs. You can support them directly.

By supporting our GoFundMe campaign, you become an integral part of rebuilding what was lost. Your generosity will provide immediate relief, offering essentials such as clothing, food, and shelter to this family who has been left with nothing. Beyond their immediate needs, your contribution will help them to regain their sense of stability as they navigate their "new normal" with a renewed sense of hope through the support that you provide.

Every donation, no matter the size, is a reminder that they are not alone in this journey- that the world stands strong behind them, ready to lift them up. Your generosity will help us piece together shattered lives, rebuild homes, and pave the way for healing.

Funds that you give will go directly to the Rogers-Cabrera ʻOhana where they can access them quickly and directly. With your gift, they will begin to rebuild their lives immediately.

Let this family know that they are supported and lifted by their community. Prayers are welcome along with your contribution. Donate now.
