Lahaina Fire Relief Fund for Rena & Kalani Vierra
Donation protected
Aloha,
We are writing to you heartbroken and distressed as we share our pain with many of our brothers and sisters on the island.
Our names are Anuhea Vierra, Kaeo Vierra, Nicolas Vierra and Grant Vierra. We are the children of Rena and Kalani Vierra. Like so many other families in Lahaina, we have lost our generational home. Our great tutu, Annie Kanuawailani Akana Vierra, built the house nearly 100 years ago, becoming one of the first to own a home in Lahaina in the early 1920s. As a child, our dad, who was raised in O'ahu, frequently visited Lahaina to help his tutu maintain the home. Our grandfather, Charlie Vierra, and our dad built three additional homes on the property in the 1970s to create a space for our growing family to call home.
Tuesday, August 8, 2023, everything changed.
Our dad received a phone call from our sister, Anuhea, that Hurricane Dora was bringing worsened conditions to the area. Strong winds quickly began tearing our roof apart. Our dad immediately left work to begin making emergency repairs with the assistance of Anuhea, who is six months pregnant with her first child. As they tried to fix the roof, the “100%” contained fire at the top of Lahainaluna Road scurried down the mountain within minutes, reaching our home. The wind, fire, and smoke were too much to handle and they left to ensure their health and safety. Luckily, they made it out of Lahaina Town just in time.
Our dad, who's lived in our home since the late 1980s, left everything he owned behind. The Lahaina fire ripped through our home,
taking from us everything we’ve known. We are currently heartbroken, but our spirits remain high as we relive the timeless memories we had growing up in Lahaina. We are determined to get through this tragedy.
We reach out to you as a family, with heavy hearts, to ask for any donations to help kickstart the rebuilding process of our home.
Mahalo.
