Update: Life is starting to finally look up for me, I end up moving to Oahu and starting a new chapter and chance i got in life, all because of all the help, love, mental support of everyone around me on and off island. I am still close enough to Maui so when it's time to go back home I will be ready, our island needs the space to heal and breathe.
Our names are Matthew and Desislava, we lost our home, our jobs on Front street, everything dear to us, but mostly we lost our beloved town of Lahaina and very close friend to us. What happened in our life is very devastating and it feels at time impossible to repair. I replay in my head so many things I could've done differently, but the outcome still remain the same: destruction, loss of life and everything beautiful that surrounded us. I panic when I smell smoke, when the wind is stronger than usual, every time we drive around and I see power lines hanging on the ground and fear of a repeat of the worst day of our lives. I feel guilt trying to enjoy what's left from our island, I feel guilt watching a beautiful sunset from somewhere else, thinking how gray, sad and lonely is Lahaina without all of us, guilt of the thought if we have to move and that Maui will hate me forever. God Bless our spared lives, God please protect and guide the lost ones, God please give us strength, hope and comfort. Aloha live within us and we live with Aloha in our hearts.
