Laid-off Assistance for the Olinger Family
Donation protected
My name is Oliver J Olinger, and I live in Melbourne, FL.
Until recently, I hoped I might avoid the unpleasantness of pandemic-related lay offs. This past Friday (Oct. 2, 2020), however, I joined the millions who have been left jobless by COVID-19. I immediately applied for all assistance programs for which I am eligible, but unemployment has been taking months to be approved of late and I will need help if I'm going to carry my family through this disaster.
For those of you who don't know me well, I was employed as a content and copywriter at a marketing firm in Orlando for almost 4 years before this happened. I have a wife and 4 kids, 3 of whom are special-needs and live at home with us (the oldest, Natalie, is an adult and moved to California after graduating high school).
Beatrice is in a small private school and is finally doing well in her studies. Finn and Gemma attend an autism school/therapy center and I don't know what we would do without its excellent therapists and teachers. All 3 have severe eating delays and textural sensitivities that make grocery shopping more expensive than I'd care to admit (over $100/wk just for baby food).
I don't know how my job hunt is going to go, but I will be filling out applications and looking for freelance writing gigs every day of the week until I find full-time employment. Unfortunately, finding work isn't a cake walk right now. Not many businesses are hiring writers and the job market's outlook (especially for writers) is gray.
I know I will find something, and hopefully soon. But I have to plan for a long hiatus. Freelancing will help a little, but I won't make nearly as much as I did at my previous employer. I set the fundraiser limit here at $3,000, thinking of a prolonged period of unemployment.

If you are able to give, my family and I would be greatly appreciative. And if your generosity causes donations to exceed the target amount, I can assure you that all donations will go to my family expenses and children.
