Lainey Ballew’s open heart surgery

Hayley and Eric are the parents to Aubrey (seven), Carter (six), and Lainey who is five months old. Their son Carter was born with an AV canal heart defect. He had his open-heart surgery June 2017. They were told that if they had more kids the chances of them having another baby with heart condition was extremely rare so when Hayley got pregnant last year and had a fetal echo done with their baby girl at 20 weeks they were devastated to find out that she has a heart condition as well. Lainey was born October 25, 2022 weighing in at 8 lbs. 5 oz! They heard a heart murmur right away! They had her first heart appointment with Dr. Zittergruen at Mercy in Cedar Rapids at two weeks old and Lainey had an echo done at that time where they found out that she has the same heart condition has her brother Carter, an AV Canal heart defect. Lainey has already had two echoes done and will need more before her surgery in August. The family has insurance, but the cost of open-heart surgery and all the echos is a lot.
