Lainey’s Bright Future Fund

Lainey is a beautiful gift from God! Since early on in her thirteen years of life, she has faced many challenges with a smile on her face, brightening everyone’s day around her all the while. She is a very kind, caring, funny and helpful young lady who everyone falls in love with when they meet her. She has an amazing personality and constantly teases those close to her. Stitch (from Disney’s Lilo & Stitch) and her horses are her sidekicks when playfully causing a raucous. Lainey is also an avid horse rider and loves walking the barrels. Although she can get across what she is trying to say a majority of the time, the end goal is for Lainey to gain complete control of her motor skills, speech and continued growth in the classroom.
The Doctors aren’t able to tell us why she has her challenges. Though diagnosed with Apraxia (a motor speech disorder), she has always struggled with global delays too. What does this mean? It means that on the speech side she has just a few words we understand - she knows what she WANTS to say but her brain is unable to instruct her lips, tongue, jaw and whatnot to work together to have the words formed. She uses a communication device, writes and has a few signs to let us know what she needs. It also means that she has trouble in school and despite significant daily work, she is grade levels behind her peers.
Over the years we have used multiple therapies (few covered by insurance) for her growth and to provide some relief for her. Though somewhat effective, they never really made the differences we had hoped for her. Our continued and unrelenting research for solutions led us to the Plasticity Brain Center in Orlando. During an intensive week of therapy there, Lainey has truly outstanding, documented results after just that short time. She went from having no dedicated eye movement to 1/2 or better of the average persons! (Please see photos below). Plus, the three remaining primitive reflexes Lainey had, of which we had been being working on for the previous three years, were integrated in that week. Simply amazing!!
The first picture above shows a graph of the average persons dedicated eye movement. Middle picture is Lainey’s dedicated eye movement before therapy. As you can see, there was none. The last picture depicts Lainey’s eye movement after just one week of therapy! Truly astounding!
Two of the many treatment modalities at the brain center. Lainey especially enjoyed riding on M.A.R.C.!
At the weeks end (after looking through proir MRI’s, genetic testing and evaluations), the Orlando Care team has concluded that Lainey could achieve “normal” function with additional sessions. Following Lainey’s YEARS of intensive therapy with everything from conventional to alternative medicines and techniques and everything in between, words cannot express the hope this represents!!
We’ve already invested hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours in Lainey. It’s been worth every penny and every moment. But, we have a problem. The continued suggested treatment program is yet even more money and it’s money that we simply no longer have. Of course, none of these additional costs are covered by insurance. To have come this far, finally to have found a solution, and to be unable to afford this final step is hard to take. Even this limited time - just one week of treatment - was so very life-changing for her. We can only imagine what is in store for her. An independent and safe life for our Angel? It brings us to our knees in appreciation and awe.
A week of treatment at the center, with travel included, costs about $10,000. The care team would like to see Lainey every 6 months and believe she will need 3-5 more intensive weeks there to meet her full potential.
Would you consider partnering with us to help provide Lainey with her best possible life outcome, one filled with the joys and amazement that all the rest of us simply take for granted? Every nickel, every dime, every dollar, no matter the amount, truly would be so appreciated! If you find it in your heart to share Lainey’s story with your friends to get her message out, we would be grateful for that as well. Thank you for your consideration!
