Lakes Fire Relief Fund
This afternoon (8/12/2020) the Lake Fire began and has already burned over 10,000 acres with 0% containment. Many family and friends of the Lake Hughes, Pine Canyon, and surrounding area have been deeply affected by the onslaught of the Lake Fire. This fire has already devastated three families lives with the possibility of more that may be affected as the fire rages on. As a rural community, I know our hearts are all deeply affected and saddened for their loss.
I personally know many of those affected by the Lake Fire and other recipients I know through contact with community members who provided me with names of individuals who have lost so much in the Lake Fire. Lake Hughes/Pine Canyon area is an extremely small community, and with that, people are well known to each other. I have worked tirelessly by phone, Facebook (Our Mountain 411 & Lake Fire Support Coordination) and visiting individuals in Lake Hughes to gather names. I have been in direct contact with many recipients either by phone or Facebook “Our Mountain 411”, the community Facebook page.
How will the funds be distributed?
The donations will be distributed at our Lakes Community Center where a list of names and dollar amounts to be given to each individual or family. Each recipient will be advised that they are to pick up the donation at the Community Center and sign for the donation they have been provided. I am also working in conjunction with Teri Gordon, President of the Lakes Town Council and Rhonda F. Kersey a member of the Lakes Community Center, and Local organizer Jessica Byers a local community organizer and 3rd generation resident in coordinating fundraising efforts and a plan to distribute the funds raised.
How will the funds be allocated to those affected by the Lake Fire?
It is the goal to distribute the funds raised in the most equitable manner feasible. There are numerous individuals that lost so much in the Lake Fire and some without friends who are able to commit to starting a Go Fund Me page in their name. This campaign covers those individuals who have not had the benefit of a private/individual fundraiser on their behalf or those who have not raised a substantial amount in their Go Fund Me fundraising efforts will also be part of those who receive funds. The funds will be calculated and distributed by using the funds individuals have received via a personal Go Fund Me account and those who have received nothing.
Thank you for your heartfelt donation. It is appreciated more than words can convey.
