Help Heal Lake Huntington, by the Lake Association
Donation protected
Lake Huntington is a nutrient-rich lake located in the Hamlet of Lake Huntington, within the Town of Cochecton in Sullivan County, NY.
Harmful algal blooms started to plague Lake Huntington approximately 10 years ago.
Most recently, a confirmed harmful algal bloom occurred in 2014; suspicious blooms have now occurred every year up to and including 2022.
Toxic algae blooms plague the lake during the warm summer months.
Due to low oxygen levels, the lake can no longer support trout and certain fish species.
Runoff water from many different sources, deforested land, new construction, and salted roads continue to add to the nutrient levels and decrease oxygen in the lake.
If no action is taken, the aquatic population will die off, and toxic algae blooms will consume the lake during summer.
Algae blooms have closed water bodies in the past due to the potential harm to humans and pets.
Your donation will go to efforts to help heal the lake and protect it for future generations.
