Lake Opechee Preservation
This mission of the Lake Opechee Preservation Committee is to deal with the issues of invasive aquatic species as well as the health of the watershed and overall water quality. Our mission is entirely one of protection and conservation.
It’s been six years since we have last reached out for donations – and we now ask for your support again as we prepare for the next several years of maintenance. The City of Laconia and the State of NH continue to contribute a portion of these annual maintenance costs. We estimate the private funding portion of this work over the next 5 years to cost approximately $35,000.
In 2021, we plan to add an herbicide treatment to the annual diving/hand pulling efforts in the battle against invasive milfoil. The most recent survey of Lake Opechee by NH DES shows concentrations of milfoil increasing along the upper eastern end from the Anthony Drive area and down past Mallard Cove. Lesser concentrations were noted along the rest of the shoreline in various areas.
Preserving the quality of water on our beautiful Lake Opechee is essential to maintain the enjoyment, recreational opportunities and property values. We truly appreciate any support you can provide.
