Lakeland Theatre Roof Fund

Lakeland Theatre and Cultural Arts Center has served the Roanoke Valley for 36 years. Lakeland is a 501c3 Non-Profit that has provided quality entertainment to the community, education and guidance for thousands of young people plus a safe, family friendly community resource since 1978. Lakeland produces about a dozen main stage shows each year including musicals, plays and concerts. In addition Lakeland produces scores of other events like dinner mystery dinner theatre, music events, comedy events, and karaoke on the smaller Cabaret stage. Lakeland also supports multiple children workshops, internships and educational events including an annual program that brings talent in from Tisch School of the Arts in NYC to perform in a local production.

Lakeland has been successful at staying stable and even flourishing through these hard economic times. Unfortunately the buildings that make up the complex are old and deteriorating. In 2013, volunteers completed over 6,000 hours of renovations to the main theatre. The place was transformed into a world class facility.

Now to everyone's horror, the roof is falling apart. Leaks have sprung up in multiple places. The leak back stage has gotten so bad that it is threatening the structure of the roof. Several walls are showing signs of decay. We have attempted to patch and are losing the battle. The only option is to replace the roof. This is a $90,000 option and quite frankly, the organization cannot absorb an expense of this size.

It is a tragic situation that all of the hard work is being undone. It is a catastrophe that this jewel of the community is being threatened. If the roof repairs do not happen very soon, Lakeland will be forced to close after serving the community for 36 years.
