Lakia Parker’s Funeral
Donation protected
My single mother, Lakia Parker, recently passed away from breast cancer. She had over 30 tumors in her brain and chest; doctors told her chemotherapy would only speed up her demise and that they could no longer treat her. I sat with my mother for 5 days in the hospital while she was still coherent, she spoke to me “Don’t let this hinder you, go to school and chase your dreams! We’ve came too far, promise me you won’t stop!”. See, my semester at UC Berkeley was starting in a few days, and it was big for both me and her but more for her. To her it was an opportunity to elevate our family beyond the situation we were born in. These were my mothers final wishes and I’d be damned if I didn’t excel. The day after I left the hospital to move to Berkeley, she took her final breath. Now, I’m sitting here organizing my best friends funeral.
