Lala's Hemolytic Anemia Treatment
Donation protected
Hi there,
My name is Hope and I'm fundraising for my and my dog Fergus's best friend Lala. Lala has been diagnosed with autoimmune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA - sometimes also called AIHA), which is a disease where the body attacks and breaks down its own blood cells causing severe anemia.
Lala was first diagnosed with IMHA in August 2023. She was extremely ill and weak and was hospitalized for many days. She's been taking medication to manage the disease since then, including steroids and a blood thinner to prevent the clotting which can often occur with this disease. Overall, she may need to take these drugs for many months. Once she's stabilized, they can be tapered off.
The initial hospitalization cost $14,000. Since then, she goes for blood tests every two weeks and her medicine to prevent blood clots costs about $1500 a month. So far, her family has spent over $20,000 to keep her alive and healthy during this time.
Lala is beloved! She's a beautiful, athletic, crazy ball of joy who loves everyone she meets. It absolutely makes my day to see Lala!
It's been hard to see her tired and not playing as much, especially since she's still very young at just two years-old. She's just a sweetheart and her family is also incredibly lovely and they care for her immensely.
The funds will be used to pay for Lala's ongoing care - her blood tests, vet visits, and medications. Any additional funds will be used to help offset the bills already paid for.
Please consider donating or sharing this page. We want Lala around, being her exuberant and loving self, for a long, long time.
