LAMA LENA'S DZOGCHEN TEACHINGS IN DEVON
We are raising funds for Lama Lena’s travel expenses to and within the UK in 2019, her accommodation costs whilst here and for the venue hire for the teachings in Devon.
NB. Any funds over the amount we have said we need will be divided amongst
1. Lama Lena's travel fund, 2. carbon offsetting and 3. startup funds for next year's Devon retreat.
Thank you for your generosity!
The £925 is made up of £350 Venue Hire, £400 travel costs, £50 retreat refreshments, £50 publicity, £75 hospitality for Lama Lena.
Lama Lena holds many lineages and expertly teaches from a wide range of Dzogchen, Chagchen (Mahamudra) and other texts. This year she will be teaching from the Dzogchen tradition, particularly answering personal practice questions from those attending.
Lama Lena has a worldwide student base. She teaches with penetrating insight, humour and many years of experience.
Lama Lena is keen to keep alive the tradition that the teachings are given free of charge. This is how the Dharma has been offered, since the time of Shakyamuni Buddha, across all the countries where his teaching has been established.
It is common in Buddhist countries for practice environments to be financially supported by the wider community, and for the teachings to be sponsored by those who can afford to do so – and this is considered to be an important way to generate positive energy which, by giving with the intention to bring benefit in this world, is also supportive to one’s own practise and one’s general happiness and well-being, now and into the future. It is considered particularly that helping others to have opportunities to practice and receive teachings creates the cause for oneself to be able to do so again in the future, whether in this or future lives.
In seeking to fund Lama Lena’s teaching in the UK in this way, we are inspired by the feeling that by sponsoring the teachings, we are giving something – it is an act of generosity, rather than a transaction. We are not paying to receive the teachings – they are beyond price, in that they offer us the opportunity to find true liberation from delusion and suffering in this very lifetime. Rather, we are supporting the teachings to happen, because we believe that they are of great value and benefit, not only to ourselves, but to anyone who has the capacity to meet, hear and practice them.
The money raised on this page is to cover Lama Lena’s travel and accommodation costs and will not contribute to her personal living costs. At the end of each set of teachings, there will be an opportunity for those attending to make a personal gift of money to Lama Lena, in gratitude and appreciation for what we are receiving from her. There is no pressure to do so – the teachings are genuinely offered free of charge – but, again it is considered that even if one can only afford a very small gift, making such a gift creates a connection with the Lama and the lineage of teachings, and this helps real transmission to occur: the Lama is giving freely, but our capacity to really receive that gift depends somewhat on our genuine openness and appreciation towards what is happening, and our gift back to the Lama is symbolic of that attitude. Also of course, by financially supporting the Teacher, we enable them to continue to teach and to pursue their own practice, thus helping ensure the continuation of the tradition into the future.
Should there be any money left over from this crowdfunding, after covering the costs of Lama Lena’s 2020 UK visit, this money will either be kept towards funding Lama Lena’s next visit to the UK or go into an existent fund for Lama Lena’s ongoing travel expenses - or a combination of these two.
