Lambda Perpetual Access Fund

Earlier this year a student told the Lambda School staff he would need to drop out of Lambda School  - a school where students don't pay any tuition until after they've found a job making more than $50k/yr, because he needed to get a job to pay his rent. 

He had been laying irrigation pipe in the weekend, and when the person he was working for demanded he come in 40+ hours the next week (the time he was attending school), he refused, and was let go.

We were heartbroken. This student didn't come from a wealthy family (no one in his family had ever finished high school or made much more than minimum wage), and we soon learned he was $400 from graduation.  A mere $400 was separating this student from a life-changing opportunity.

We dipped into the meager funds we had as a company, paid for his rent, and two months later he had a full-time job making $70k/yr.

Lambda School sees these types of situations every day - where a few dollars is the difference between someone landing a life-changing salary and falling just a bit short. 

To that end, we've established the Lambda Perpetual Access Fund.

The fund thus far has been almost entirely provided by Lambda School, and we’re purchasing computers and running very small scale experiments providing student housing during Lambda School for students that have proven themselves.

Every dollar donated goes directly into purchasing computers, covering internet bills, or other small expenses for students in need. Eventually we'll be able to cover housing stipends and other expenses; every dollar will be put to use by directly helping someone create a new life for themselves.
