New parents both diagnosed with Cancer!
Donation protected
My name is Karen I'm fundraising for my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter.
The donations will initially go towards a good wig for Laura, childcare costs, a new bed needed for them both to recover in, and more importantly towards the mortgage to help keep them in their home whilst they both do their best to recover from cancer treatments/surgery over the next 12months.
I'm afraid without this they will have to sell their family home at such an awful time in their lives. This will give them at least 12 months financial breathing space to get better from this terrible situation they are both faced with. 'You can't write this stuff'
Laura and Matt’s love story is one for the ages. They met 24 years ago online, there friendship was based on their enjoyment of Legend of Zelda. Despite living far apart. They became very good friends and did lots of things together, traveling on weekends to see each other. They lost touch for a few years, but soon reunited and became partners.
They married March this year after being together for 15 years and had their darling little girl this May. It’s a beautiful love story that I can tell you all about another day.
Unfortunately, Laura and Matt have been hit with a double whammy. February this year, Matt was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine tumours in the small intestine and lymph node. He has been experiencing excruciating pain in his stomach and has been admitted to Hospital multiple times. After a few scans, he was finally diagnosed with this slow-growing cancer.
Laura and Matt were devastated and worried, but the surgeons have said that it is operable, maybe not all, but may be possible to control. They will know more once they do the surgery. Unfortunately, Matt’s surgery has been cancelled twice now. It should be rescheduled anytime soon.
While all of this was going on, Laura and Matt tried to continue with life, got married, had their beautiful baby daughter, and were looking forward to getting Matt’s surgery out of the way so they could both enjoy their little girl. Matt has to be careful as stress, lack of sleep, and most foods put him in a flare-up and he ends up in the hospital again.
Laura’s health has also taken a turn for the worse. After giving birth through an emergency C-section, she felt unwell and went to the doctors numerous times to be told it was postpartum. Three weeks ago, she was sent for a chest x-ray only to find a 15cm mediastinal mass! She has since been diagnosed with lymphoma (blood cancer), and they are waiting for the results from a biopsy to find out which kind it is.
We are all shocked and devastated that this has happened to such a lovely, kind family. Laura is on statutory maternity leave, and Matt is struggling some days to continue to work because of his condition. But he carries on to provide for his family regardless.
Things are so uncertain for their future finances, not knowing how long Matt will be off work after his major surgery. And how long it takes for Laura to get back to work also.
Laura isn’t well so needs help to look after their baby and is facing up to eight months of chemo and cannot afford extra childcare. The consequences of Chemo means she is likely to loose her hair/eyebrows. If that wasn't enough she may also loose her fertility. This is such a hard thing to face being a young women. Her self-esteem is at its lowest.
They are both worrying all the time about how they are going to meet the everyday bills, especially the mortgage.
I thank you for reading this, and I ask that together we can at least relinquish Laura and Matt’s money worries so they at least have a fighting chance to recover from both their cancers and look forward to parenting their daughter like a normal couple and live a happy fulfilling life.
Please donate and share this GoFundMe anywhere you can. I have added Laura as a beneficiary so she will be able to get any donations direct.
Your donation will mean the world to me and both families. We can't believe this is happening to them both. We want to see Laura and Matt get through this awful time together with the help and support they deserve from us all.
Hoping for a successful fundraising.
