Land of the Rising Sun Dream

This campaign is for my minor daughter, and here is the story she wrote:

My name is Amira. I am the daughter of two hard working first responders who have taught me the value of hard work and kindness. They have raised me to be a leader and not to follow the crowd.  I know the value of doing what is right over what is popular. I try my hardest to be a good example to my little sister, who I know is watching my every move.

I am currently a sophomore in high school. I have ADD and an autoimmune disease. However, despite the challenges my learning disorder and medical diagnosis present, I am an A and B student who takes honors classes.  Not only do I put forth the extra effort in school, but I also participate in extracurricular activities four to five days a week. I am a manger of my school's wresting team. I am a yellow belt in jujitsu. I also do CrossFit workouts with my parents to maintain my health to minimize the potential negative effects of my autoimmune disease.

My parents have always told me that hard work pays off. This year, my hard work and positive attitude absolutely paid off. I was nominated by my teachers to participate in an 11-day educational trip to Japan. The trip is scheduled for March 15, 2018. My mother, Gloria, also volunteered to be a parent chaperone to help ensure the safety of all the students who are participating.

This nomination was an honor, but my parents cannot afford to send me without assistance (partly because of monthly medical expenses to treat the ADD and autoimmune disease).  The remaining cost of the trip is $8,615 which would cover airfare, hotel, tours, train rides and two meals a day. The balance is due 90 days before the trip (at the very latest).  I would hope to pay the balance sooner if possible.

This trip will be work and not solely for pleasure. At the conclusion of this trip, I will be required to submit a video essay about a research topic pertaining to Japanese culture.

This trip is the trip of a lifetime for me. It is something I can include on my college resume. I will get high school and college credit for participating in this trip. My ultimate goal in life is to someday be a doctor to help people and maybe help find cures for diseases. Including this trip on my college resume would help me get into a good college to make that dream come true. I would be eternally grateful for any and all generosity shown to me, and it would not be forgotten. I would remember the kindness shown to me and "pay it forward" someday when I am a successful adult myself.

Please remember, your contributions are also tax deductible as it is an educational contribution. Your donations are deductible up to $200 per individual and $400 for married couples. The trip is being sponsored by EF Educational Tours. You can visit their website for more information. EF Educational Tours Amira for my page and EF Educational Tours Gloria for my mother's page.

Thank you so much for reading my story! Also, thank you in advance for your contributions!
