60 DAYS notice to find a NEW HOME -Urgent Rental Assistance

My name is Rebecca. I am a single parent with a beautiful 8 year old son who has ADHD & Autism 2. I love being a mum !! Riley is a beautiful boy who is so loving ,kind and creative and very popular at school ✨✨

I rent a unit privately in Cronulla NSW and have been terribly distressed after receiving a notice from my rental agency , informing me that my tenancy will end in 60 days and I must vacate the premises by 17th July 2024.

The owner of the whole block is doubling the rent in all 12 apartments and unfortunately all of the tenants ,including myself & Riley have to leave :(

I have been in touch with government agencies and charities about this but unfortunately they aren't in a position to help at the moment .

I will continue to stay in touch with the government agencies and charities , but the timing of this move has been a huge surprise and out of the blue, so my situation is quite alarming and causing a huge amount of anxiety for me.

My son Riley attends a Public School in Cronulla which caters very well to his special learning needs. It wouldn’t be easy to find a school in another area which goes out of its way to help children with learning difficulties . Riley and I have a great network of friends in the school and we love our Cronulla community and support and need to stay local .I don't have a car so staying close to the school is also very important.

Like so many , the renters market is really pushing many to their limits financially with huge spikes in rental prices. I have been on the public housing list for over 6 years ,and since Covid so many people are a lot worse of than us, so the lists have grown dramatically for public housing .

My only income is a NSW Disability Pension.

My current rent for a 2 bedroom is $500 per week (have been here for 6 yrs) and a 2 bedroom in our area is now $600-$650 a week rent.

I am frantically viewing apartments to secure a new lease and find a new home for us .More and more apartments are popping up these past 2 weeks which is wonderful , but I don't have the funds to secure a new lease/bond or pay the higher rent .

My main goal is to raise enough funds to cover the rent of our new apartment for 3 months so I can breathe a lot easier and feel safe and secure for a few months as we work through some new challenges with Riley @ school.

During the 3 months in my new apartment and hopefully having my rent covered in full , will allow me much needed breathing space to focus on my appointments for Riley and launch my cleaning and dog walking services so that I can manage this new rent increase and expenses on my own.

I appreciate so many of us are dealing with these strange times and pressures from all angles. I am grateful for any help no matter how small and I look forward to updating you all weekly with where we are at .

This is exactly what the funding raised on here will be used for :

* 3 months full rent $7800

( $650 X 12 weeks)

+

* 1 month rental bond $2600

TOTAL $10,400

We have a great life in Cronulla and a very supportive family but the financial pressure has really hit hard this year ,and this unexpected move and short time line has been very unsettling and to be honest has me very distressed.

The sooner I can raise these funds and secure a new lease will be a massive relief .

I have never been behind with my rent payments.

With the help of my family we have started to cull and pack my current apartment . It feels very strange packing with no idea where we are moving too.

I realise this is a huge goal financially on here, but I am simply putting it all out there .
