Landmark legal case against Gemma O'Doherty

Donation protected
Edel Campbell, the mother of a young man who tragically died by suicide has issued High Court proceedings against Gemma O’Doherty and her freesheet ‘The Irish Light’ for what she says is the “exploitation of her son’s image” in an article suggesting a link between young people’s deaths and Covid vaccines.

Edel’s son Diego Gilsenan, died in August 2021 by suicide, and his mother, Edel Campbell is suing conspiracy theorist Gemma O’Doherty for emotional distress for falsely implying her son died as a result of a Covid-19 vaccine. This court action was brought reluctantly by Edel in an attempt to protect her family from the toxicity of Gemma O’Doherty’s false and nasty publication.

In November 2022, Diego Gilsenan’s photo was included among 42 pictures on the front of Gemma O’Doherty’s publication under the headline “Died Suddenly”. In a video posted on Friday, May 26th 2023 O’Doherty claimed:
“I am untouchable. I am not going near any court. I have secured my assets in such a way that the only people who will be losing money will be Edel Campbell.” “We have no intention whatsoever of removing any pictures, which are widely available all over the internet.”

Edel is seeking an injunction to prevent O’Doherty using her son’s image on any medium. She is seeking damages for trespass to the person, negligent and/or wilful infliction of emotional distress, breach of her constitutional rights to her good name and her privacy rights, plus aggravated damages.

In December 2022, O’Doherty tweeted:
“Just because you’re the parent of a dead person doesn’t give you the right to tell lies, stalk and slander another. We understand some of the vaccinated cannot face what they’ve done to themselves and their children but please don’t blame those who tried to save you.”

As you are aware, fighting such a case through the High Court is a very costly exercise and this is the reason we are seeking your financial support to enable Edel and her legal team to exhaust every possible avenue to bring Gemma O'Doherty to justice where she has been failed by politicians and Gardaí. We want to let Edel know she is not alone and she is very much supported in this battle against hate and negativity.

We understand that times are tough for everyone right now during a cost of living crisis but any financial support whatsoever that you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated to help Edel Campbell cover her legal costs in this landmark legal action.

No amount is too small and we can fully guarantee that all donations will be used appropriately to her legal advisors. Also in the event that there are any surplus monies we will undertake to relay them to a charity of Edel’s choice. There will be full disclosure of the monies received and discharged.

Edel has bravely took on Gemma O’Doherty and is presently subject to the most horrendous abuse online by the violent ultra-right supporters of this conspiracy theorist. Edel is fighting hard for justice with the help of Mulholland Law – lets get behind her!

We kindly ask you contribute in anyway to demonstrate solidarity against darkness. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
