Landon Camp Abilities

Hi Everyone, I wanted to start off with thanking everyone from last year that helped me achieve my goal for summer camp. I had one of the best weeks of my life. I was able to play sports and experience new activates. Paddle boarding is now one of my favorite outdoor actives. Thanks to camp abilities I was able to experience activates that I have never been able to accomplish before. Through camp I have meet other kids that are just like me and have built lasting friendships. I would love to go to summer camp again this year at SUNY Brockport, NY. Camp Abilities is a summer camp for the blind, visually impaired, and deafblind. The camp is set up to provide a one-on-one instructional situation for each person, which is often the contrary to other camps designed for people with visual impairments. Typically only 3-5 children who are not from NY are able to attend. Luckily I was selected as one of those children. I’m 12 years old and live in Cincinnnati, OH. I was born with optic nerve hypoplasia (ONH). ONH simply means I’m blind and I can’t see. I use a Cain as my eyes. Camp abilities offers me the chance to be apart of a sports camp for children and teens who care just like me. Camp abilities is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to play sports just like my friends. Also I get to meet and become friends with other campers that live with a visual impairment just like me.
