Hey there, world! My name is Landon and I’ve been contemplating what to write here for a few days now. You’d think as a poet that words would come easily to me but it’s fine!
I’m a 20 year old transgender man. I’ve felt a disconnect from my body ever since I was 10, but never knew the words to describe it until reaching high school. When I ranted to my friend about it, I just figured that it was a side effect of going through puberty. He encouraged me to look into symptoms of gender dysphoria, and everything came together. That was the disconnect that I had been going through all those years.
I formally came out six years ago, when I was 14. When I was 15 I started binding with scarves and bandages before getting an actual binder. A year and a half ago, I started testosterone. All of this has made me feel more confident in myself, but I know that there’s one last piece to the puzzle: top surgery. And for that last part, I’m humbly asking for your support.
Cost breakdown: $1,500 to help secure a date; $300 for anesthesia; $300 for pathology. The remainder will be put towards helping cover the surgeon fee and pain medications for recovery.
This would help me immensely in living my life the way I know I was intended to. There are days where I’m unable to function because my gender dysphoria is so bad. There’s a poet that I idolize named Neil Hilborn, who wrote a line that goes “there are days where I can’t see the sun even though it’s right outside my window.”
But there are glimpses of good days that keep me going, and the fact that I am on the way to getting this surgery is one of the great things that I can still look forward to. It feels like one of the reasons that I've stayed alive. I know that none of us are rich, but every dollar that you could spare means more than you could know.
