Land's End to John o' Groats in 2024
Over the course of 2024 I will complete bike rides connecting Lands' End to John o' Groats, in memory of my Dad, Nigel John, who died unexpectedly in October 2023, one week after his 60th birthday. The route will divert towards memorable locations along the way, with a goal of reaching John O'Groats in the final ride of this challenge by October 2024.
As keen cyclists we had thought in the past about what bike rides Dad might do after turning 60 - whether a full LEJOG, a Welsh coastal ride, or riding up Bathwick Hill to emulate university days (when it was done repeatedly on foot!). Now it's up to me!
Lands' End - which we visited in 2001
1. Bath - where Dad studied for undergraduate and PhD degrees, and met my Mum!
2. Swansea - where Dad grew up
3. Harlech - a memorable holiday location as a family, and for their 35th wedding anniversary in September 2023. And a good Castle!
4. Bangor - where Dad became a Professor in 2003
5. Chester - our home, and where Dad had worked since 2015
6. Northumberland - castles and causeways, an early family holiday location
7. Cairnwell Pass - where I dragged Dad up the largest climb he cycled, on a Father/Son cycling trip

The full route and plan is yet to be determined. If anybody who knew Dad wants to get involved at some stage, then you'd be more than welcome to!
