Landslide destroys family home and possessions.

Marney and Dave Gordon arrived to the Daintree many years ago and are well and truly known as locals, they first moved in with Marney's Mum & Dad, Lyn and Alan Barwick. After many years of searching for the perfect property they settled on a site on Cape Tribulation Road in Diwan. Mountains to the rear, a creek running through their property and beautiful Daintree surrounds. The perfect picturesque property would later become their worst nightmare.

On Wednesday the 13th of December Cyclone Jasper tore through Far North Queensland and was followed by record rainfall.

Early Monday morning at approx 1 am their home and every possession was destroyed by a massive rock-slide caused by what is now known as the downpour of the century!

Dave was swept away by mud, water, rocks and debris. He was able to grab onto a tree and hung onto a vine to anchor him until day light,

Marney was stuck on her bed with mud flowing all around her in the dark grasping onto her two dogs and a cat, all the while she had no idea what had become of Dave, of course thinking the worst.

Once day light arrived Dave some how waded through thigh high mud, rock and debris, climbing the mountain hoping that his beloved Marney was still alive. No words can describe how relieved they both were after seeing each other for the first time after several hrs of not knowing if either has survived this catastrophic event.

Late on Monday afternoon the SES together with brave locals rescued Dave & Marney and Dave was able airlifted to Cairns Hospital the following day. Surgery has been performed on multiple areas of his body and unfortunately they were unable to save his foot, resulting in the amputation of his lower leg. Dave now faces a long slow process towards recovery.

Marney is doing as well as can be expected under these trying circumstances, bunkered down with her Mum & Dad.

Every possession has been lost including those that hold precious memories.

We have a wonderful community that are here for moral support but these guys need to start to rebuild their lives.
