Lane Cove Public School Fire Recovery Fund
Donation protected
On the 21st January a fire at Lane Cove Public School destroyed the school hall, canteen and toilet block. While we are grateful that no one was hurt, the fire has had a devastating impact on the school just one week before the start of the new school year.
The hall was the hub of the school and was used for a wide range of school and extra-curricular activities including assemblies, band and orchestra practice, school plays, discos, gymnastics and by drama and sporting clubs. Many musical instruments were stored in the hall and were also destroyed in the fire.
The canteen served students, staff and teachers with more than 24,000 healthy and nutritious meals per year. It provides a vital service to families who are time poor or just want to ensure their child gets a nice nutritious meal during the day.
Whilst the buildings and contents were covered by insurance, we are hoping to raise additional funds to help the school to rise from the ashes and bounce back stronger than ever. We believe the kids deserve it!
Many people in the local and broader community have kindly offered donations to support the school during this difficult time, so we have established this GoFundMe page to make it easy to contribute.
All donations that are received will go to school’s Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association, who will allocate the funds where they are needed most, to support the school and the students. Please follow Lane Cove Public School P&C on Facebook for updates on how the money has been allocated.
We appreciate all donations large or small and thank you in advance for your generosity.
We recognise that many other schools have suffered significant damage from bush fires this summer and we understand if people would prefer to support those schools, the Red Cross or Rural Fire Service.
About the school: Lane Cove Public School was established 140 years ago and is attended by more than 800 children in years Kindergarten through to 6. The school has a vibrant music program and is the only school in the area to have a canteen operating 5 days per week. The canteen, music program, drama clubs and sports clubs are made possible thanks to a small army of volunteers who give up their time to give back to the school.
$10,000 Update: We made it to $10,000 in less than a week! A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We really are overwhelmed by the support that we have received from school families and the broader community. Please share this campaign far and wide to help us get to our $25,000 target. Thank you!
$12,500 Update: This is an important milestone in our campaign to raise $25,000. We have made to the half way point! Once again a huge thank you to everyone that has donated or shared the campaign. We are excited about raising another $12,500. Thank you!
