Lanita "Nene" Hughes

Hi. My name is Angel and I’m fundraising on behalf of my Little Sister’s cousin and her family.

Lanita “Nene” Hughes was celebrating her 30th birthday at a house party when someone came in and opened fire, killing Nene. A senseless random act of violence took her from her two beautiful daughters, both 11, and from her son, 1. The killer has not been found.

Nene’s Mom came up from Georgia to bury her daughter and to pack up her grandchildren to move them back home with her.

Earlier this year Nene’s oldest daughter wrote a paper about her mom for women’s history month, “I want to write about my Mom because she loves me, feeds me, and shelters me. I love my mom because if she wasn’t here I wouldn’t be here either. My mom is brave and hardworking…I am thankful when my Mom rewards me with gifts. My mom cares about me. She is my biggest fan. Anything I do she loves the idea…My mom has never given up on me. She is always there to hype me up and when I fall she always helps me get back up again.”

Her mom will not be here now to help her and her sister and brother get back up when they are overwhelmed with grief, so please, anything you can give to help lighten the financial burden that comes with an unexpected death of one so young, will help the grandmother do for her grandchildren what her daughter can no longer do for them.

The funds raised will go towards the burial and memorial service, as well as moving expenses.
