Why We're Raising Funds:
We are Lansing -- a community that's been ignited by our small businesses, artists, musicians, non-profits, and place makers who have each played a unique and vital role in cultivating a place we all know and love. For the last four years, the Lansing 501 team team has launched dynamic events and place-based marketing initiatives to showcase the best of Lansing to Lansing's future. We've hosted a fashion show at an airport hangar, deployed a 300 foot zip line in the heart of downtown , and staged a music festival with 12 progressive concerts along 1.5 miles of riverfront.
Our region, state, and the nation are experiencing unprecedented circumstances and an uncertain future. Once our new normal returns, we want these small businesses, entertainment opportunities, non-profit destinations, and artisans to still be pillars in our community. And without our support now, the places that make Lansing home may be in serious jeopardy.
Enter the Lansing Live-A-Thon. Lansing 5:01 is rolling up our (virtual) sleeves to support beloved non-profit destinations that provide important services and have contributed mightily to the resurgence of our region.
Our Fundraising Goal:
This isn't just about a few large donations from benevolent organizations or generous individuals. This is about leveraging the power of generosity across our entire community. It's about calling upon our tribe of emerging professionals, students, and community change agents to play their part, however they can, in helping the organizations that have helped so many others. Our goal is to raise AT LEAST $5,001 from a minimum of 501 donors for our featured non-profits.
Your Support Has a Big Impact:
As a "thank you" and nod to the local small businesses that are also facing serious challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Lansing 5:01 will gift the first 501 donors who donate at least $10 with a $5 e-gift card to one of many #LoveLansing businesses, like Foster Coffee, Playmakers, and many more. Whether you donate $1, $5, $10, or $50, every dollar counts.
The Featured Non-Profit Destination Organizations:
Fenner Nature Center
Harris Nature Center Foundation
Impression 5 Science Center
Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center
Lansing Symphony Orchestra
Potter Park Zoo
REACH Studio Art Center
R.E. Olds Transportation Museum
Wharton Center for Performing Arts
Woldumar Nature Center
Why This Matters:
Many fundraising campaigns and granting organizations have (rightfully) focused their efforts on providing emergency funds to organizations that provide critically-important human services for our community. And thankfully, our municipal and regional economic development organizations have leveraged dollars to provide emergency funds and grants to small businesses that are in jeopardy of closing. However, we know that the current pandemic has brought significant economic harm to many non-profits, cultural destinations, musicians, artists, and "gig economy" workers that make the Lansing region the special place it is.
Lansing 5:01's vision has always been to showcase the best of Lansing to Lansing's future. Now is the time to support the organizations and creatives that have made our community a wonderful, vibrant place...and to make sure they are sustainable and can continue to position #LoveLansing as an incredible place for future generations of talent.
