Laptops For Beirut - Von Studenten für Studenten

Ziel der Initiative
Die Corona- Pandemie hat das Leben von uns allen auf den Kopf gestellt. Remote statt Präsenz heißt die Devise. Doch ohne technische Ausrüstung ist ein solcher Umschwung kaum möglich. 

Aus diesem Grund möchten wir mit Euren Spendengeldern neue Laptops für hilfsbedürftige Studenten in Beirut kaufen. Denn in Beirut haben die Studenten nicht nur mit den Folgen der schweren Explosion im vergangenen Sommer zu kämpfen, sondern zudem mit einer enormen Inflation, welche die Laptop Preise ins Unermessliche treibt. Ein Laptop  ist somit aus libanesischer Sicht ein absolutes Luxusgut, das sich nur noch ein Bruchteil der Bevölkerung leisten kann.

Wer sind wir?
Wir sind eine Projektgruppe bestehend aus 13 engagierten International Business Studenten der DHBW Lörrach. Seit dem Wintersemester diesen Jahres stellen wir dieses Projekt neben unseren alltäglichen Verpflichtungen auf die Beine. Getreu dem Motto “Studenten unterstützen Studenten” sind wir entschlossen, uns im Namen der Bildung für Studenten in Beirut einzusetzen. Wir sind der festen Überzeugung, dass jeder ein Recht auf Bildung haben sollte und, dass dieses Recht nicht aufgrund fehlender Hardware verwehrt werden sollte.  


Wie ist diese Initiative entstanden?
Hi, ich bin Linda und habe das Projekt “Laptops for Beirut” ins Leben gerufen. Libanon hat einen ganz besonderen Platz in meinem Herzen, da ich dort im Frühjahr 2020 mein Auslandssemester absolvieren durfte. Trotz der aktuellen wirtschaftlichen Krise wurde ich von unvergleichlich herzlichen Menschen und mit offenen Armen empfangen. 

Als wäre eine verheerende Wirtschaftskrise sowie eine weltweite Pandemie nicht schon schlimm genug, erschütterte eine schwere Explosion im August 2020 die libanesische Hauptstadt Beirut. Das Ausmaß der Zerstörung schockierte die ganze Welt. Aufgrund meiner tiefen Verbundenheit zu Beirut, hatte ich das starke Bedürfnis aktiv zu werden, statt nur still zu trauern. Schnell stellte ich fest, dass sich die meisten ausländischen Initiativen auf medizinische Hilfe und den Wiederaufbau von Häusern konzentrieren. Auch wenn diese Hilfe dringend gebraucht wird, wird ein wichtiger Aspekt völlig außer Acht gelassen: die Bildung. Allein in Beirut gibt es 24 Universitäten und damit unzählige Studenten. Bildung bietet ihnen nicht nur Zukunftschancen, sondern auch Halt und Sicherheit. Ohne technische Ausstattung wird diesen Studenten jedoch nun der Zugang zum Online- Unterricht und damit der Zugang zur Bildung verwehrt. 
Ich möchte mit diesem Projekt Studenten in Not unterstützen und ihnen ein Stückchen Perspektive zurückgeben. Denn am Ende hätte ein solcher Schicksalsschlag auch Dich und mich treffen können. 



Wer ist unser Partner?
Für dieses Projekt kooperieren wir mit SEPT, einer unabhängigen, registrierten, libanesischen NGO. Bestehend aus einem Projekt Manager sowie einigen jungen Studenten und engagierten Freiwilligen, liefert uns das Team Fakten aus erster Hand. Dank der engen und freundschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit ist es uns möglich, in Zukunft den bestmöglichen Content für Euch zu kreieren und auf die verheerende Lage in Beirut aufmerksam zu machen.

Wie geht es weiter?
Die Spenden, die wir dank EURER Unterstützung gemeinsam sammeln, werden vollständig an unseren Kooperationspartner SEPT überwiesen. Diese werden sich vor Ort um die Beschaffung neuer Laptops kümmern, sowie um das benötigte Zubehör in Form von einer passenden Laptoptasche und einem Headset. Diesbezüglich haben wir uns ein Budget von 500 Euro pro Hilfspaket gesetzt. Wie viele Studenten schlussendlich von unserer Unterstützung profitieren können, hängt also stark von dem finalen Betrag der gesammelten Spenden ab. 

Um zu garantieren, dass unsere Hilfspakete am Ende auch wirklich da landen, wo sie gebraucht werden, haben wir vorab konkrete Kriterien definiert. Anhand von der Dringlichkeit sowie der finanziellen Lage der Studenten wird somit analysiert, wer eines unserer Pakete bekommen wird. 
Uns ist es besonders wichtig, den Prozess so transparent wie möglich zu halten. Somit möchten wir gerne im regen Austausch mit Euch bleiben und Euch über unsere Gofundme Seite sowie über die Sozialen Medien über den stetigen Verlauf unseres Projektes informieren.

Aim of the initiative
The Corona pandemic has turned the life of all of us upside down. Remote instead of presence is the motto. But without technical equipment such a change is hard to manage.
For this reason, we would like to use your donations to help buy new laptops for students in need in Beirut.

In Beirut, students are not only struggling with the consequences of last summer's explosion, but also with enormous inflation, which is driving up the price of laptops immeasurably. From a Lebanese point of view, a laptop is an absolute luxury good that only a fraction of the population can afford.

Who are we?
We are a project group consisting of 13 committed International Business students of the DHBW Lörrach university in Germany. Since the winter semester of this year, we have been setting up this project in addition to our daily commitments. True to the motto "Students supporting Students", we are determined to work in the name of education for students in Beirut. We strongly believe that everyone has a fundamental right to education and that this right should not be denied due to lack of tools.  


How did this initiative come about?
Hi, I'm Linda and I started the Laptops for Beirut project. Lebanon holds a very special place in my heart as I was able to spend my semester abroad there in spring of 2020. Despite the current economic crisis, I was welcomed by warm people and with open arms. 

As if a devastating economic crisis as well as a global pandemic were not bad enough, a massive explosion rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut in August 2020. The scale of the destruction shocked the entire world. Because of my deep connection to Beirut, I felt a strong need to become active instead of just silently mourning. I quickly realized that most foreign initiatives were focused on medical aid and rebuilding homes. Even though this aid is urgently needed, one important aspect is completely ignored: education. In Beirut alone, there are 24 universities and thus countless students. Education offers them not only future opportunities, but also support and security. However, without technical equipment, these students are now denied access to online classes and thus access to education. 
With this project, I would like to support students in need and give them back a perspective to look forward. In the end, such a stroke of fate could have also hit you and me. 

Who is our partner?
For this project we cooperate with SEPT, an independent, registered, Lebanese NGO. Consisting of a project manager, some young students and dedicated volunteers, the team provides us with first-hand facts. Thanks to this close and friendly cooperation, we will be able to create the best possible content for you in the future and draw attention to the devastating situation in Beirut.

What's next?
The donations that we collect together thanks to YOUR support will be transferred in full to our implementing partner SEPT. They will take care of the procurement of new laptops on site, as well as the necessary accessories in the form of a suitable laptop bag, a headset and an external computer mouse. In this regard, we have set a budget of 500 euros per aid package. How many students can finally benefit from our support depends on the final amount of the collected donations. 
In order to guarantee that our aid packages really end up where they are needed, we have defined concrete criteria in advance. Based on the urgency as well as the financial situation of the students, we analyze who will receive one of our packages. 
It is especially important to us to keep the process as transparent as possible. Therefore we would like to stay in contact with you and keep you informed about the progress of our project via our Gofundme page and on our social media accounts.
