Laptops for Black and Brown Student Success
Since August of 2020 Moms United for Black Lives NYC and Parents Supporting Parents NY has been raising funds to provide new HP 8GB touchscreen laptops to Black and Brown students in Harlem who do not have the technology to successfully participate in remote learning.
When the pandemic hit, New York City went on pause and schooling went remote. We realized that Black and Brown children in our communities did not have devices, technology, and/or access to WiFi, representing what is known as the Digital Divide. Many of these Black and Brown children are housed in shelters or public housing and live with food insecurity. All of these Black and Brown children have hopes and dreams and are deserving of the same opportunities as their wealthier counterparts.
To date we have provided nearly 400 high-end HP laptops -- purchased locally at PC Richard & Son in Harlem -- to Black and Brown students who need them in order to successfully participate in school. But there are so many more who need laptops. Help us build equity in the classrooms for Black and Brown students. Please donate today.
