Lazaro's Medical Bills and Expense
On November 9, 2016 at approx 7pm my brother Lazaro Lopez went to the grocery store and while he was unloading his purchase into his vehicle a 2 person team was stealing a cart full of groceries, My brother saw the "getaway" vehicle(an SUV) idling not far from him so he went to take a picture of the license plate, at that moment the driver saw him, ran him over and he was dragged underneath the vehicle for several 100 feet. As of this date they have not been caught and the police have run out of leads. They will most likely get away with this.
Lazaro was admitted into the Kern Medical Hospital that night and was not released for 3 weeks. He suffered a fractured Vertebre, fractured Scapula, fractured Clavicle, several severely broken ribs, a fractured and dislocated hip and a fractured Femur and widespread and severe RoadRash. He underwent surgery to align his clavicle and another to repair his Femur with a Rod inserted nuts and bolts everywhere....
It has been about 6 weeks now and he is still confined to a wheel chair and is undergoing physical therapy, we are hopeful he will transition to crutches or a walker within the next week or so but the doctor has the final say of course.
Thankfully I am able to have him live with me while he recuperates as he is unable to care for himself and obivously unable to work. Fortunately he did have health insurance but unforturnately there is still a large gap between what is covered and what is not, not to mention daily expenses, equipment and sufficient therapy. It is amazing what expenses you do not think about until you cannot afford them. We have slowly depleted savings and are now tightening our belts to look to the future. Although we do not need our entire goal amount now it will be needed within the next few months once all the bills start rolling in. Also the new year is coming quickly and his medical deductible will refresh which means we will be paying a deductible/copay for every doctor visit, x-ray, physical therapy visit, everything.
My brother is a kind hearted man, who goes out of his way to help his fellow human being if he feels he can. The light inside of him that supported this has diminished due to this event. I saw it dim with the first converation we had after he woke up at the hospital and continue to see it fail...I hope with this fundraier I can show him that there are amazing people in this world just like him that want to help their fellow man/woman when they are in need. I appreciate anything and everything that is brought our way. All I can say is Please and Thank you...
