Larry Freda’s Cancer Medical Cost Fund

Donation protected

Hi everyone, I am fundraising for my ex-husband (but still my best friend) Larry Freda. If you know him personally, you will know how funny & caring of a person he is. But on December 12th all the laughter stopped. Larry was having excruciating pain in his stomach. For him to ask his devoted fiancé Drea to be taken to the ER, that means it’s serious. Hours and many tests later, he was admitted with a very serious, life threatening intestinal blockage. He needed to be operated on but they needed to do a biopsy of his colon first. We got the heartbreaking news that he did indeed have colon cancer. There was a huge mass blocking his intestine that was malignant and needed to be removed. Several lymph nodes were affected as well. After a 5 1/2 hour surgery Larry was transferred into a type of intensive care unit where he stayed there almost a week and then got transferred to a regular room. He missed Christmas at home but luckily me and my boyfriend were able to visit him. He also was able to enjoy a home cooked meal from Drea which made him so happy. The next day the hospital stopped visitation per Covid uptick. It was very frustrating for him.

Larry spent over a month in the hospital and came out only to find that even though they got the mass out, the cells and lymph nodes still could be affected. He needed to get 12 rounds of a chemotherapy treatment called FOLFOX. He would spend3-4 days in the hospital every other weekfor six months. Then the day after he is released he needs to go back as an outpatient and receive a special injection called Nuelasta to help keep his white blood cell count up.
One of the 2 full day long bags of chemo. He has several other bags he needs to do at a separate time as well as bloodwork.

Larry has been a hard and dedicated worker his whole life. He worked his way through both high school and Seton Hall University. He has been working for 28 years as a Postal Clerk in a distribution center for the United States Postal Service. Back when we were married, we loved to volunteer at a beautiful animal sanctuary (as Larry is a lover of animals), volunteer at Mother Teresa’s soup kitchen in Newark, and also at a Catholic friary in Newburgh NY. He always tried to give where he could. This is why all of this is a very humbling experience because now he needs help.

Unfortunately with Larry’s health insurance he has a 30% co-insurance. Medical supplies cost almost $1000 a month. The Nuelasta shot he gets twice a month is a copay of $350 for each round of chemo. He has not received disability or regular pay since December. He doesn’t have any income coming in. Since these medical bills are piling up and Drea has SO much on her plate I decided to start this fundraiser to help him. The bills are causing him major anxiety. He wants so desperately to live and continue his life without anymore pain. His wish is to get his ostomy reversed once the chemo is over and lead back to some normalcy. If anyone can find it in their hearts to donate to his fund it would be so greatly appreciated. May God bless anyone who considers and blesses him. Thank you from Larry, Drea, myself Jodi, my boyfriend Ed, his Mom Beatrice, his future in-laws  Avril and Ronnie and all his cat that he has….Jerry, Dean, Sammi, and America and a registered colony him and Drea care for and feed.

In order: America, Jerry & Sammi above and Dean below.
And lastly,
Me and my best friend. We were married for almost 22 years and no matter what, I will always be there for him. I want him to stick around another 50 years!
