Larry Solomon - Friend to the Animals - Memorial

On July 24, family, friends and colleagues lost a special person, Larry Solomon.

He was a good husband, father, grandfather, friend, and top notch camera operator who knew how
to keep a set fun. We all lost someone special. And the animal world lost a friend as well.


As a tribute to Larry I am hoping to create a lasting legacy for his love of animals.

We all know the story of Peanut, the squirrel. In August of 2016 my wife saw a newly born
squirrel as she was walking our dog. She did not know what to do, so she called Larry. 
Larry said "put it in a box and bring it over". 


Larry named it Peanut, and over the course of the next 4 or 5 months nurtured it, built a home for it, and watched her grow.

Besides caring for squirrels, iguanas, ducks and parrots, Larry and family adopted 2 wonderful dogs - Layla and Wally - from North Shore Animal League, an animal rescue facility on Long Island.

Since 1944, more than 1.1 million animal lives have been saved through North Shore Animal League, and over 18,000 pets have been placed. It is a fitting place to honor Larry's love of animals.


To honor Larry's memory I am hoping to raise money that will fund the following:

- With a $500 donation we can place a brick on Memory Lane outside the Pet Health Center which will be inscribed "Larry Solomon, Friend to the Animals".
This will be a lasting memory to our friend.

 - I am hoping to raise $500 more as a direct donation to North Shore Animal League

 -  Finally an additional $1000 which will be distributed to other shelters and Pet Adoption centers on Long Island in Larry's memory, like Volunteers For Wild Life and Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center.

- Any money raised above the $2000 will be distributed evenly to these worthy Rescue Centers.

Some of us shared time with Larry on set, listening to him tell his memorable stories and inappropriate jokes :-). Some of us were close friends outside of the television industry. I was fortunate to spend time with Larry in both worlds.
